A historically significant Grade II * listed, substantial character property situated within the heart of Salisbury city centre and only a short distance from Salisbury Cathedral.

The Property:
Believed to date to the 16th century, this former timber framed house offers a wealth of character and development opportunity subject to achieving all of the necessary planning consents. The property is arranged over three floors with the addition of a Cellar to the front and four floors of accommodation to the rear. It has a brick faced and tile/slate hung timber framed walls, with tiled roofs which, with the adjoining property to the east, appears originally to have been one house. Late in the 18th century the house is understood to have been divided into two parts and the South front, jettied originally at the first and second floors, was masked by a four bay facade set in the plane of the top story (two bays to each house). The facade is of brick in the lower story and hung with mathematical tiles above the first floor; at the top is a plain cornice and parapet. Inside, the 16th century timber framed walls of the upper storeys include large members, probably reused. The main roof, ridged east to west across the now divided property, is of three bays resting on two heavy-collar beam trusses with 12" x 9" principles, spere-posts of the same size, and curved braces; speres, braces and collars are lightly chamfered. With the 18th Century sub-division of the property one half of this roof structure remains present and visible within No. 84 Crane Street. Tenoned to the outside face of one sphere is a massive sub tie beam 9" x 16". The trusses carry chamfered purlins 10" x 6" with chamfered wind braces. To the north of the property's 18th century central staircase is four floors of further accommodation.

Outside:
To the rear of the property is an area of garden and various redundant outbuildings needing demolition/repair. A single-story addition gives further scope, and the property offers considerable potential for redevelopment subject to achieving all necessary statutory planning consents.

The property is situated in the heart of Salisbury city centre and within a short stroll of Salisbury Cathedral and one of the city's main shopping precincts, The Old George Mall.
